These are the assignments to be completed by 6th grade students during the fourth quarter of the 2012-2013 school year. When updating their ePortfolio sites, students need to make sure that their writing is interesting to read and appropriate for their grade level. All grammar and spelling should be correct and should be a minimum length of 3 sentences in 6th grade, unless told otherwise. Many of these assignments could be completed at home, if needed. Student will need Internet access and may need access to the programs listed below in order to complete the assignments.
  • Microsoft Word

  • Microsoft Paint
  • Paint.NET - a free graphics program for Windows
In order to transfer completed work between home and school, the student would need access to the Internet and would need to log in to Edmodo and upload files to their library. Files uploaded to the student's library could then be downloaded to their computer at school and turned in for grading.

Cyberbullying

  1. Student will watch and discuss the video Adina's Deck - Episode 1 during Computer Class.
  2. Student will learn about Scratch and see some examples of projects in Scratch
  3. Student will use one of the following to learn about Scratch:
  4. Student will create an animation, quiz, or game to educate about Cyberbullying in Scratch. This will be published to the Scratch website on the St. Martin's Computer Lab account. To publish your Scratch Project:
    1. Choose the Share / Share This Project Online option

    2. Enter the login information (the password is on the board!) as shown below

  5. Student will add a post to their Google Site in the 4th Quarter for their Cyberbullying Scratch project
    • Title should be Cyberbully Scratch Project
    • The first part of the post should talk about the Adina's Deck video, the resources that were used to learn about Scratch (including a text link to the resources), and what student did to create their Scratch project.
    • Student should embed a link to their Scratch project by:
      • Taking a screen shot of their game on the Scratch Website
        HINT: Use the Print Screen button on the keyboard to copy the screen to the clipboard
      • Using Irfanview (this is on the desktop of the computer at school) to crop to just their game (draw a rectangle around what they want to keep and then select Edit / Crop Selection) and saving the image in their folder in PNG format as 6th-FirstName-Scratch
      • Using Insert/Image to add the image to their post and adding a website link to their game if you click on the image.
    • After the link to their Scratch project, student should add a reflection on all that they have done.
      • How did they feel about this assignment and why do they feel this way? This should be specific to this assignment. If they could post what they say on any assignment, it's not specific enough.
      • What have they learned? Once again, be specific!
      • What have they done well on these assignments? What do they think they could improve? Be specific.

How to Turn In: Student will turn in a link to their post on their Google Site on Edmodo.

Can this be completed at home?
This assignment can not easily be completed at home other than step #5 which can be done at home as long as the student has access to the Internet.
